"VICTORY" 1967/5727


Victory Coin of Israel


The newspapers called it "The Six Day War," but it would have been better called the Twenty Year War. The people of Israel were resolved from the beginning to defend their ancient land, the only democracy in the Middle East.


The Bank of Israel issued the "Victory" coin. In honor of the Israel Defense Forces who resisted the Arab aggression in the "Six Day War," June 5-10, 1967.


Description of the Coin

Front

The Western Wall appears over the whole coin. The inscription in Hebrew , "28th day of Iyar 5727" and "1967" in English at the rim. The Proof coin is identified with a small Hebrew 'mem' at the left of the date.


Reverse

A Sword and Olive branch, the official emblem of the Israel Defense Forces, in the center of the coin. The multiple rays of a star in the background. The inscription "Israel" with the denomination "100" or "10 Israeli Lirot" in Arabic, Hebrew and English around the rim.

Uncirculated: A Mint State coin struck on a standard planchet. The coin displays a matte type appearance.

Proof: A coin which was made with special care. The coins are struck on specially selected and polished planchets. They are struck using polished dies. The coins exhibit a mirror-like surface in the fields and a frosted appearance on the raised points of the coin. A small Hebrew 'mem' mintmark will appear on the "Victory" coin beside the date at the bottom rim.
