Commemorative Coin Set Issued by the Bank of Israel
Year 2001
A salute to all those dedicated people working in the field, and to the pupils and students persevering in their studies. A pomegranate, whose seeds signify the values of education. The Stars of David represent our Jewish values and history. The third row of symbols represents the different spheres of Higher Education in which Israel excels: (from left to right) Science, Electronic Communications, Archaeology, Computers and Agriculture. Hebrew, Arabic and Latin characters symbolize the pluralism of Israeli society and our goal in creating unity and harmony.
Coin Description
Front
A pomegranate, with seeds that signify the values of education. The inscription, "Education in Israel" in Hebrew and English.
Reverse
The denomination, "1, 2 or 10" with the year of issue "5761/2001" and the word "Israel" in Hebrew, English and Arabic. The inscription, "Independence Day 2001" in Hebrew and English. The State Emblem at the top. "New Sheqel" or "New Sheqalim" below the denomination. The Proof coins mintmarked with a Hebrew 'mem' at the bottom left. The Proof-like coin with a six pointed 'Star of David'.

Each coin is encapsulated and housed in a custom display case from the Bank of Israel
Proof-Like: A Mint State coin struck on a standard quality planchet. The coin displays a mirror type finish, but of lesser degree than a full Proof strike. A small six pointed "Star of David" mintmark struck on the "Education" coin at the bottom left.
Proof: A coin which was made with special care. The coins are struck with extra pressure using polished dies. The planchets are specially selected and polished. The coins exhibit a mirror-like surface in the fields and a frosted appearance on the raised points of the coin. A small Hebrew 'mem' mintmark is struck on the "Education" coin at the bottom left.
