This is the first coin issued by the Bank of Israel to commemorate the Hanukka Festival.
Hanukkah is the "Festival of Lights". A celebration of the victory of the Jewish Maccabees over the Syrians, and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. The holiday also commemorates the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days.
Description of the Coin
Front
A Menorah appears between two stars. The Hebrew Inscription. "Torah Or". Refers to verse, "For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs for discipline are the way of life: Proverbs 6.23
Reverse
The inscription in Hebrew, "1 Israeli Lira". The date "5719-1958" in Hebrew and English, "Israel" in Hebrew and Arabic.
The Proof coin is distinguished by frosted surfaces and slightly finer detail.

Uncirculated: A Mint State coin struck on a standard quality planchet. The coin displays a matte type appearance.
Proof: A coin which was made with special care. The coins are struck with extra pressure using polished dies. The planchets are specially selected and polished. The coins exhibit a smooth and neater surface in the fields and a frosted appearance on the raised points of the coin. A higher quality strike.
