Coin Description
Front: The Iowa state emblem, in the center. An eagle with the words, "Our Liberties We Prize And Our Rights We Will Maintain". Around the rim, "Iowa Statehood Centennial" and the anniversary dates "1846 - 1946".
Reverse: In the center, an image of the Iowa City Capitol Building with the inscription, "The Old Stone Capitol Iowa City". In the field, "In God We Trust - Liberty". Around the rim, "United States of America - Half Dollar".

Iowa Statehood FDC with cachet. Canceled in Iowa City, Iowa. August 3, 1946. The cachet designed by C. Stephen Anderson. Text: 100 Years of Statehood - IOWA - In the history of the State of Iowa, since it was first explored by the French. It was held by the Spanish, again by the French. It was part of the Louisiana Purchase. In rapid succession it was a part of Indian Territory, Louisiana Territory, Missouri Territory, the Unorganized Territory, Michigan Territory, Wisconsin Territory and Iowa Territory. Iowa was admitted to the Union on December 28,1846. Artist: C. Stephen Anderson. Attractive design. Envelope: 3 5/8" x 6 1/2".
