Moses "The Parting of the Red Sea"

Israel's "Biblical Art" Miniature Coin Series

2008 / 5768

Moses Miniature Gold Coin 2008

The 5th Coin in the "Biblical Art" Miniature Series

The Exodus from Egypt was a seminal event in history for it has become symbol of the human right of freedom, of liberation from bondage. The parting of the Red Sea, that took place during the Exodus, was the greatest miracle of all time.

The Israelites were held in slavery by Pharoah in Egypt and the Lord called upon Moses to lead them out to freedom. However, Pharoah would not let the people go, and the Lord brought the ten plagues upon Egypt in order to force him to give way. The journey from Egypt to the Land of Israel had to be through the desert and across the Red Sea, in order to avoid hostile Philistine country. After finally letting the people go, Pharoah regretted his decision and the Israelites fled with the enemy chasing after them. As they reached the Red Sea, Moses stretched his hand over the sea, as the Lord had commanded him, and the waters were divided. The waves stood as a wall on either side and the Israelites were able to cross the sea on dry land, as shown on the coin.
