Peace with Jordan Gold Coin

Peace Treaty

On October 26, 1994 a Peace Treaty was signed by Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and King Hussein of Jordan. The treaty was signed in the presence of President Bill Clinton. On the first anniversary of this much longed for peace, the Bank of Israel issued a special commemorative coin, marking this milestone in the history of the State of Israel.


Description of the Coin

Front

An Olive branch with the word "Shalom" in Hebrew, Arabic and English.

Reverse

In the center, the text "Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty October 26, 1994" in Hebrew, Arabic and English. The denomination "1, 2 or 10" at the bottom with the date "1995/5755" in Hebrew and English. The State emblem at the top, around the rim, "Israel" inscribed in Hebrew, English and Arabic at the left of the emblem.

The uncirculated silver coin is mintmarked with a 6 pointed star at the bottom. The proof coins are mintmarked with a Hebrew 'mem'.

Proof-Like: A Mint State coin struck on a standard quality planchet. The coin displays a mirror type finish, but of lesser degree than a full Proof strike. A small six pointed "Star of David" mintmark struck on the "Peace" coin at the bottom.

Proof: A coin which was made with special care. The coins are struck using polished dies. The planchets are specially selected and polished. The coins exhibit a mirror-like surface in the fields and a frosted appearance on the raised points of the coin. A small Hebrew 'mem' mintmark is struck on the "Peace" coin at the bottom
